All to often we have seen that the long-term unemployment, which is common among young South Asian people in Hong Kong, leads to disillusionment and lack of self-confidence. In some cases such people become involved in drug abuse and crime.
So in 2006 ICM opened a school offering free vocational training in commercial cooking to unemployed people in this community.
The course has been a huge success with far more applicants than we can handle. Many of those who have completed the three-month course have gone on to jobs in the catering industry and some have also come to know Christ.
We are now actively planning an expanded version of this project in a new premises.
Since the success of the commercial cooking training, we feel God is calling us to expand our work in this area.
In the future we hope to open a small restaurant so that we can give our trainees on-the-job training and work experience.
